![]() ![]() I didn't expect for her and her captor to walk away into the sunset. This is after all a historical fiction, not a romance. ![]() I don't mind an ambivalent or tragic ending. I wish I could rate this higher because the writing flowed, there were some interesting, poetic touches, and overall the story was very well written. It also succeeded in showing the emotional and intellectual evolution of the protagonist, who starts out in the story as the pampered, arrogant daughter of an Irish king, and ends up the thoughtful, brave, and compassionate woman who belongs to an Icelandic chieftain. It was extremely plausible in its brutal, unromanticized description of the fates of slaves and the bloody violence permeating the era. This was a meticulously researched Viking historical fiction. ![]()
